The 2018 Veterans Day Fishing Tournament is in the books. We started off with a 23 degree blastoff and ended with temps around 50 degrees. No rain, no wind, no snow and sunny. 80 boats (a new record for us) came out to compete. 22 Marine, 20 Army, 17 Navy, 8 Air Force, 2 Coast Guard, 1 National Guard Veterans and active duty teamed up with 86 Supporter / Patriots. Great fun, comradery, food, prizes, etc. Silence of the Hams started everyone off with breakfast to go and also BBQ after the weigh in. Close to $10,000 in cash and prizes were awarded as well as $3865 in payout money. This years Veteran Appreciation Award was given to Danny Gomez, Jr. Many, many donors and volunteers help make this event happen each year and I thank each and every one. Until next year, make thanking a Veteran an “everyday” occurence.

$5 of each entry fee is held out and the total number of 80 entries x $5 this year = $400. The winners get to elect a Veteran Charity of their choice to donate this money. This years winners…..Sonny Gleason and John Robinson wish to donate the $400 to the Reel American Heroes Foundation in Woodbridge, Va. Thank you Sonny and John.
