I would like to take a moment to introduce myself (Amanda Thompson), Bart Staton, and Rusty Powell. Many of you will recognize us from the Kickin’ Bass fishing tournament that benefits the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Virginia. Larry Martin and his wonderful family have asked us to carry on the Veteran’s Day Fishing Tournament and honor our Veterans with the same enthusiasm as they have over the last ten years. We have promised to try and do just that. So over the coming months, you will see many posts from us as we work towards putting together an amazing event for our Veterans to enjoy. ![]()
Bart Staton will be your Tournament Director; he is a recent retiree from the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office. He is now thoroughly enjoying life, and staying busier than he ever was when employed! He and his beautiful wife, Donna, have four wonderful children, and live in Culpeper.
Rusty Powell has been an independent contractor for the last 40 years. Rusty is a true outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time. He’s a loving, dedicated father and grandfather to his three children, and five grandkids. He also lives in Culpeper.
I am currently a lieutenant with the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office. My wonderful husband, Wayland, who is also a lieutenant will be retiring in August and is looking forward to staying busy the same way Bart is! We have two beautiful girls and live in Culpeper.
Bart, Rusty, and I look forward to hosting this event and honoring Veterans in the same manner the amazing Martin family has over the last decade. The Martin family will be volunteering at the tournament, and Larry and Lee will finally be able to enjoy the event on the water instead of directing it from the shore! More to come, friends….
